Planet of the Apes Novel by Pierre Boulle
Published more than thirty-five ago, Pierre Boulle launched one of the most successful sagas of science fiction film history, from the classic 1968 film starring Charlton Heston and Roddy McDowell, following four sequels and two television series. . . and finally the latest adaptation, the film directed by Tim Burton.
The novel starts when a pair of idler rich (Jinn and Phyllis) walk into a spaceship and find a rare manuscript in a bottle.The manuscript tells how three men (Ulysses Mérou, Arthur Levain and Antell the Professor ) towards the year 2500 travelled from planet Earth to a distant world called Soror.
In Soror, humans are primitive, they walk naked and live like animals, while the apes are civilized beings. In a hunt, Ulysses and Antell are captured and Levain is killed . Then Ulysses and Antell are separated and taken to a simian city where they undergo all sorts of experiments.
After many adventures, Ulysses get some scientists apes warn that he is not an animal, devoid of language but an intelligent being from another planet, and finally manages that the ape’s society accepts that even humans can be conscious. So, he is adopted by two scientists, Zira and Cornelius, and begins to live like another monkey. However, Ulysses’ life got complicated when two things happen: For several reasons, Zira and Cornelius discovered that about ten thousand years ago, there was a human civilization that dominated Soror, but then they declined and were replaced by the simian culture. The other reason is that a woman called Nova got pregnant from Ulysses, and the apes are afraid that the children of Ulysses are as smart as him and return to dominate all the apes. Here, when the apes intend to take measures against the threat of returning to the human domain on behalf of Ulysses and his family.
