The Planet Of The Apes 1968

Based on the novel La planète des singes by Pierre Boulle.

Traveling at the speed of light, an exploratory space mission from Earth suffered a  forced landing on an unknown planet. The astronauts, led by Colonel George Taylor (Charlton Heston) inspect the surroundings and discover that the intelligent beings on this planet are apes  that share physical features with chimpanzees (civilians), gorillas (militaries) and orangutans (religious and political) from Earth itself, but they have developed an anthropized and militarized civilization,  also speak English.

By contrast ,the humans in this world,  have poorly developed social power, they are are currently  unable to speak and are killed in military raids and treated like cattle by apes’ leaders.

Taylor was taken prisoner, suffering a throat injury that prevents him from speaking, therefore he is treated all the rest of the human animals in that planet and  the apes take him to his village along with other humans hunted in the same raid. Along with Taylor a good-looking young woman, Nova (Linda Harrison) was caught, which is given by the apes to  Taylor with  mating purposes.

In the village, some sectarian scientists  apes led by Dr. Zaius (Maurice Evans) study him carefully and philosophize about his characteristics . Over time, Taylor wins the trust of two young academics chimpanzees , one of whom is a female chimpanzee Zira (Kim Hunter) and her teammate Cornelius (Roddy McDowall). After discovering that he can speak, increasing their mutual interest and conversations Taylor indicated that humans were once there hegemonic and dominant species and were subjugated by the monkeys centuries ago. Finally, with their help, he  obtain to escape with Nova.

In their running they are advancing  along a coast, Taylor discovered archaeological evidence suggesting the existence of a buried city like New York, until he sees the Statue of Liberty covered in sand, which have him to realized the planet where he is , it’s the Earth , and he is on the future…
