Reeve plays Richard Collier, a playwright writer living in Chicago One day while celebrating a staging of one of his theatrical works, an old woman approaches him and gives him a watch and tells him to return to her. The old woman returns to a hotel called the Grand Hotel and later dies.

Collier is intrigued at the moment and when he visits the Grand Hotel in 1976, finds that the old woman handed him the watch might be a notorious and beautiful actress of the early twentieth century, Elise McKenna. Upon discovering in an historical room a picture of the actress he was captivated by her. Collier learns all about her and knows that he appeared in June 1912 in the hotel and confirms that the old woman that night in 1972 was Elise McKenna. Also located a biographer named Roberts who gives interesting facts about the end of her life.

A psychomentalist named Dr. Finney convinces Collier that he can trick his mind through hypnosis and make a regression to to the past. Collier returns to the Grand Hotel and discovered by a janitor named Arthur that they are listed as “checked” on a record of visits in 1912, therefore he had been there 64 years ago.

Collier got dressed with costume of the day and sleeps in a bed to self-induce his mind, after a great effort succeeds and awakens in a room at the Grand Hotel in 1912, just at the time that Elise Mckenna (Jane Seymour) is there ….
